October 2–4
Hi families,
October starts with one of Orange County’s biggest fall weekends. Warwick Applefest takes over the village on Sunday, LEGOLAND launches Brick-or-Treat on Friday, and Newburgh has two creative activities that are completely free on Saturday.
Here are this weekend’s best family picks, plus a rainy-day backup.
🍎 The weekend headliner
Warwick Applefest
Sunday, October 4 | 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Downtown Warwick | Free admission
Applefest fills Warwick’s streets and parks with more than 150 craft vendors, 75 food vendors, four stages of live music, and apple pie contests. It is the biggest event of the weekend and a strong choice for families who want a full fall-festival day without paying admission.
Parent tip: Arrive early. Festival parking is $10 cash at Warwick Valley Middle School and Veterans Memorial Park, with free shuttles into the village. Food vendors are cash only, and pets, bikes, scooters and skateboards are not permitted.
🧱 The free pick
A creative Saturday morning in Newburgh
Saturday, October 3 | Starting at 10 a.m.
Downtown Newburgh | Free
Archtober Newburgh has two hands-on family activities that pair nicely together:
Cardboard City at 10 a.m. Children can turn everyday recycled materials into neighborhoods, skyscrapers and imaginative structures at ADS Warehouse, 105 Ann Street.
Build Your Block! LEGO Printmaking at 11:30 a.m. Kids and adults use LEGO bricks and small printing presses to create colorful prints at the Newburgh Farmers’ Market, 97–105 Broadway.
Both activities are free, and the farmers’ market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., making it easy to grab lunch or shop from local vendors afterward.
🎃 The Halloween splurge
Brick-or-Treat at LEGOLAND New York
Friday, October 2–Sunday, October 4
LEGOLAND New York, Goshen | Included with park admission
Brick-or-Treat begins this weekend with kid-friendly Halloween shows, LEGO builds, monster character meet-and-greets and trick-or-treating at 10 candy stations beginning at 2 p.m. The event is designed to be fun rather than scary, so it works well for younger children.
LEGOLAND is currently advertising $49 online tickets valid through November 1, with the offer scheduled to end October 4. Check the ticket page before purchasing because availability and pricing can change.
🌽 The classic fall-farm day
It’s Fall Y’all at Wright Family Farm
Saturday and Sunday, October 3–4 | 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
329 Kings Highway, Warwick | $15 ages 3 and older
Spend the day exploring the farm’s barnyard and corn maze, with animals, pedal karts, a cow train and other farm activities. Live music is planned during the weekend, including Five Piece Suit on Sunday.
Our pick: Go Saturday. Warwick will be much busier on Sunday because of Applefest.
🍏 The lower-cost orchard option
Apples and pumpkins at Apple Ridge Orchards
Friday–Sunday, October 2–4 | 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
101 Jessup Road, Warwick | $3 admission, ages 2 and older
Apple Ridge offers pick-your-own apples and pumpkins, a petting zoo, play area, farm stand and wide-open orchard views. Pumpkin admission includes the patch, zoo and play area; pumpkins are $14 each, any size.
Good to know: Admission and pick-your-own purchases are cash only. The farm recommends calling before visiting for current picking conditions.
☔ Rainy-day backup
Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame
Saturday, October 3 | 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
240 Main Street, Goshen | $10 adults, $5 children ages 4–12
If the weather turns, the Harness Racing Museum offers an indoor look at Goshen’s horse-racing history, with exhibits, racing memorabilia and interactive displays. It is an easy backup to keep in mind because no advance reservation is listed for regular admission.
One quick planning note
Applefest will bring heavy traffic to Warwick on Sunday. If you want a quieter orchard or farm day, choose Saturday and save Sunday for Applefest. Before heading out, check the official event link for weather-related changes, ticket availability and last-minute updates.
